I have an Elcotel Series 5 payphone and am trying to change the rates
Programming via keypad
You can program via the keypad using a password and various codes. You start by lifting the handset for dial tone, digit dialing #, followed by an eight-digit password. You can input a three-digit code from a list, and the phone will say "on" or "off." In the phone software manual, It has a list of the codes and what they do. For example, in programming mode, if I punch in "100", the phone will respond "100, on." or "100, off." Code 100 is the code for incoming calls and if they are on or off. You can change the setting from on to off and vice versa by pressing * twice.Â
There are several manuals, the phone I have has a software version that I don't know the version of so I have struggled to program it. You cannot change the rates via keypad, but you can do many other things.
Programming remotely
You can program the payphone remotely using the Elcotel Payphone Network Manager (PNM) software with a computer, modem, and a landline or phone line simulator. The PNM software works with Windows 98 and Vista. I'm using a Vista thinkpad. I don't have a landline or a line sim. The payphone is on a VOIP internet line with a Grandstream ht801 acting as a phone line (you can't use the grandstream for programming without modifying it). For now, I'm stuck until I get a line sim and they are way out of my budget so I'm saving up for one.
